Upholstery Cleaning Tip
Monday, February 6, 2023
Always check your furniture's cleaning tag.
Job one is to always check the upholstery for the cleaning code. It is usually at the bottom of the label, under the cushions on the deck of the piece. It will tell you the proper cleaning product to use. Keep in mind, the wrong cleaning product may cause colors to bleed or cause fabrics to pucker or even shrink.
Here is what each code means:
W - You can use a water-based upholstery cleaning agent. Don't use tap water which may contain stain-causing minerals.
S - The "S" stands for solvents. Never use water. Use solvents instead.
WS - You can use either mild solvents or water based cleaning agents. Again, you should avoid tap water.
X - Don't try it! Call a professional to handle cleaning these more sensitive type upholstery fibers.
